In 2007, Millsaps College formed an Integrated Marketing Team, composed of faculty and staff, to lead the College in the development of a new marketing strategy. Integrated marketing communication, in the field of higher education, refers to the development of an overarching strategy that applies to all departments and divisions within the College. It allows everyone to speak in the same "voice." This new strategy was designed to propel the institution toward a set of common strategic marketing objectives and goals.

During the two-year process, the team conducted several SWOT analyses, worked with a national higher education research firm for internal and external target audience research, presented the integrated marketing plan to the Board of Trustees and the Senior Staff of the College, and held sessions analyzing the brand position with faculty, staff, students, alumni and prospective students.
